about
A friend of mine died from Coronavirus last week. I am still in shock. This song came out of me over the last few days.
For years I’ve felt the world is spinning off its axis. Driven by our greed and hunger for more (namely our HUBRIS), we are leveraging everything and pushing the boundaries of science to alter the natural order of things. Everything has limits. When they are pushed, especially in unchecked and dubious ways, we inevitably create causes and effects that we can't possibly predict or understand. I believe the unleashing of a horrific virus like COVID-19 is a perfect example (the resulting NEMESIS).
Let's use this moment, as we find our modern world frozen and temporarily catapulted back into the 19th century, to contemplate our future before we bio-engineer ourselves into extinction...

lyrics
HUBRIS AND NEMESIS
by J. Fotiadis
V1
You’re sitting and you’re staring, at a droning TV screen,
while useless politicians and their pundits lecture you….on hygiene
V2
And the street outside is quiet, but the birds fly through air
And nature always takes its course, ignoring your despair
CHORUS
And while you are all sitting there and waiting,
Some of you are having trouble breathing,
The rest of you should really do some thinking,
And consider what it is that brought you here.
Yes consider what it is that brought you here.
V3
Your arrogance and ignorance, your pompous intellect,
combined with high technology was showing its effect.
V4
And now you sit there humbled, and are cowering in fear
You better keep your distance, yeah, you better not come near
CHORUS
And while you are all sitting there and waiting,
Some of you are having trouble breathing,
The rest of you should really do some thinking,
And consider what it is that brought you here.
Yes consider what it is that brought you here.
BRIDGE
These changes seemed to happen overnight,
Years in the making, but just out of sight
and what was grey, is back to black and white
don’t act surprised, man, oh no, don’t act surprised
And yesterday you learned a friend had died,
it’s getting closer, and you’re terrified,
Perhaps you’ll see him on the other side
yeah I know, you’re trying to normalize
SOLO
LAST VERSE
You’re sitting and you’re staring, at a droning TV screen,
while useless politicians and their pundits try to sell you chloroquinine
CHORUS
And while you are all sitting there and waiting,
Some of you are having trouble breathing,
The rest of you should really do some thinking,
And consider what it is that brought you here.
Yes consider what it is that brought you here.
CHORUS
And while you are all sitting there and waiting,
Some of you are having trouble breathing,
The rest of you should really do some thinking,
And consider that your HUBRIS brought you here.
And consider that your NEMESIS is near.
